Reading Tutoring in Ogden Elementary Schools

Welcome!

You will be providing reading tutoring support during the school day at an Ogden elementary school (Wasatch, Shadow Valley, Polk, Heritage, Liberty, Lincoln, Odyssey, New Bridge, East Ridge, Hillcrest). This will include reading one-on-one with students using the DYAD reading method. See the summary of duties here.

Volunteers for this position are required to spend at least two hours per week at the same time and day during the school year. 

Once you have signed up, the program lead will coordinate a time and school with you. You will coordinate your shift time with the school's Instructional Coach, who will also be your supervisor and is in charge of verifying your hours weekly. Once you pass the background check, you will receive your instructional coach's contact information.

Returning volunteers do not need a background check or finderprinting, but please email Nancy Jones at njones@uwnu.org 

After you register, here are the next steps: 

1. Click on the "Register" button on this page to sign up and follow the instructions to complete the registration form. 
2. Schedule your fingerprinting here through Ogden School District, free of cost.
3. Complete this Volunteer Request Form  and review the Common Contract and Education Support Professionals section on the form. You do NOT need to get a signature from the principal or your supervisor. 
4. Bring the form to your fingerprinting appointment and tell them you are volunteering as a reading tutor through United Way so you are not charged the fee.
5. Once you pass the background check, you will receive an email from Ogden School District to confirm your start date. Background checks can take up to 3 weeks.
